We’re Sensing a Theme Here To raise funds and food for some of Flag’s most in need organizations, Flagstaff Shelter Services will be hosting the event “4 Squares for the Homeless.” There will be a four-course meal prepared by four of Flagstaff’s top chefs—made exclusively from food that has been donated—and each chef will give a cooking demonstration on how to make gourmet fare from everyday items. Tickets to the event are $44 plus four cans of food, and it will benefit Flagstaff Shelter Services, the Northern Arizona Food Bank and the Flagstaff Family Food Center and it begins at 6 p.m. For more, call 556-1580 or visit www.flagstaffshelter.org.

Neither Rain, Nor Snow, Nor Acts of God Among the many local happenings that had to be called off due to the biblical amounts of snow that buried Flagstaff two weeks ago, local band Lowcash had to cancel their CD release party. Fancy a Farce? Kicking off their “Season of Laughter,” Theatrikos Theatre Co. is presenting Shakespeare’s classic comedic farce “The Merry Wives of Windsor.” With a cast of 23 local performers, the tale follows the broke protagonist Sir John Falstaff as he attempts to woo two women for their husbands’ money.

However, Falstaff goes too far and, needless to say, hijinks ensue. The performances will run Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. through Feb. 28. Play it again, George Best known for his folk and R&B style, legendary pianist and Grammy winner George Winston just released his newest album, Love Will Come: The Music of Vince Guaraldi, Vol. 2, which pays homage to the jazz pianist who recorded the classic music for the Charlie Brown TV specials and Winston’s own “musical hero.” Hear selections from the new album along with a variety from Winston’s repertoire when he performs in Flagstaff at Ardrey Auditorium on the NAU campus. An Open Letter … With a new format this year, the Northern Arizona Book Festival will be presenting author readings, book signings, workshops and other events throughout the year instead of over one weekend. Catch the kick-off event with Flag Live’s own “Letter from Home” authors Tony Norris, Darcy Falk, Jean Rukkila, Kate Watters and Shonto Begay reading from their work and performing original songs. There will also be a silent auction fundraiser for the Book Fest. It gets started at 6 p.m. at the Coconino Center for the Arts, 2300 N. Ft. Valley Road, and is $5 at the door. It’s Big San Diego-based hip-hop/electronica collaboration Vokab Kompany is headed by MCs, vocalists and producers Burkey Baybe and Rob Hurt and backed by their seven-piece band to create rhythm-based harmonies that move beyond categorization.
