Sure, Flagstaff may never be synonymous with “Fashion Mecca,” but there is no denying that in the last half-dozen years or so, a definite sense of style snuck in. And like most trends that make their way through town, it was captured, beaten into submission and transformed into something akin to “Flag chic.
” Flagstaff’s sense of style has no singular definition, and instead is an amalgamation of the inherent fabulousness of such a creative community. So four years ago, Flag Live hosted the first Strut Fashion Show to highlight the local boutiques, independent designers and niche retailers who were at the front lines of the fashion crusade. This Friday we’re celebrating the fourth annual Strut Fashion Show featuring your favorite local shops and designers—plus the always-absurdly attired party band Yin Yang and Zen Some—proving that a sense of style is open to interpretation. Don’t miss Strut, Fri, Nov. 20 at the Orpheum Theater, 15 W. Aspen. There will be fashions from more than 20 retailers and designers, live music by Yin Yang and Zen Some and DJ Emmett, fashions available for purchase, and a public fashion contest for Strut attendees. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the all-ages show starts at 8 p.m. Entry is $5 at the door or two items of non-perishable food, with all proceeds benefiting the St. Mary’s Food Bank. For more info, call 913-8669 or 556-1580.
